Naturopathic Doctors use a combination of nutrition, supplements and lifestyle modification to help patients suffering from thyroid disorders. In Ontario, Naturopathic Doctors have prescribing rights for Desiccated Thyroid which is a prescription medication used to treat hypothyroidism.
In order to get a prescription for desiccated thyroid, the following steps must be taken.
- Initial consultation with a Naturopathic Doctor
- Laboratory testing with full thyroid panel (TSH, Free T3, Free T4, Anti-TPO, Anti-Thyroglobulin, Reverse T3, Cortisol AM)
- Yearly testing to get prescription renewal
